Weekend Getaway with Gilera: Dinant Through a Dog's Eyes
Last weekend, we swapped our Antwerp home for a mini-adventure in the Ardennes, and yes, Gilera naturally came along. Our base? The cozy and charming Castel de Pont-à-Lesse, nestled in lush greenery, where you literally wake up to chirping birds and a wagging tail by your side.
🗺️ Day 1 Paws on the Path in Dinant
We started in the heart of Dinant, a town that perfectly balances rocks, water, and charm. Gilera proudly paraded along the promenade by the Meuse, sniffed every flower box, and enjoyed the attention (and secretly a piece of croissant on a terrace).
Together, we took the lift up to the Citadel high above the city, where we overlooked the winding river and the rooftops of Dinant. Afterwards, we went on the water, as a boat trip on the Meuse was a must. Gilera had her own spot on deck and watched every duck in sight with perked ears.
🏰 Day 2 Castles & Sniffing Trails
After a wonderful night (Gilera thoroughly tested the hotel bed, of course), we headed towards Château de Walzin. A castle that seems to come straight out of a fairytale, with walking paths that are perfect for a morning walk-with-paws.
We also paused quietly at the Castle of Celles, picturesque and the perfect spot for a mini picnic with a view of history. Our last stop was Namur: what a city. We strolled through the streets, had lunch on a sunny terrace, and finished with a last look at the imposing Citadel of Namur.
🐶 Weekend-Proof Tested & Approved
From the hotel room to the boat, from castle garden to city tour: Gilera was welcome and in her element. We literally tested everything – raincoat, travel mat, harness, snacks – and can only say: yes, this is how traveling with your dog should be. A weekend in Dinant is therefore not just a recommendation for people. It's a dream trip for four-legged friends with style, flair, and a good sense of adventure.
