A Day in Lillo with Your Dog: A Little Escape from Antwerp
Sometimes you don’t have to travel far to feel like you’ve truly escaped for a while. Just a stone’s throw from Antwerp lies Lillo: small, charming and surprisingly peaceful. Exactly the kind of place you can visit without a strict plan, together with your dog, and still have the loveliest afternoon.
For Gilera, that meant new scents, quiet little streets and, of course, plenty of time to inspect absolutely everything.
A Small Village with Plenty of Charm
Lillo almost feels like stepping away from Antwerp for a moment. No busy shopping streets or packed terraces, but historic houses, little streets and an atmosphere completely different from the city.
That’s exactly what makes it such a lovely place for a day out with your dog. You don’t need to plan an entire day. A few hours of walking, looking around and stopping somewhere for a drink is more than enough to get that true mini-getaway feeling.
Walking Your Dog in Lillo
When we’re out with Gilera, we love places where we can slow down and take our time. Lillo is perfect for that. You can wander through the village, walk towards the water and stop along the way simply to enjoy the surroundings.
No complicated route, no rush. Just walking at your dog’s pace.
And to be fair: Gilera doesn’t really care how beautiful the architecture is. As long as there are enough interesting smells to investigate, the outing is officially approved.
Why Lillo Is Perfect for a Dog-Friendly Day Trip
What we especially loved about Lillo is how easy and relaxed it feels. You don’t need to plan an entire weekend just to get away for a little while.
It’s a lovely destination if you:
- want to escape Antwerp for a few hours with your dog;
- enjoy discovering quiet and photogenic places;
- want to combine a short walk with something to eat or drink;
- are looking for an easy mini getaway close to home.
For us, these often turn out to be the best little trips. No complicated itinerary, just getting in the car together and seeing where the day takes us.
Our Tip
Don’t visit Lillo just to take one quick photo and leave again. Take your time to wander through the little streets and walk towards the water. Precisely because the village is so small, its charm lies in its slow and peaceful pace.
If you’re looking for a lovely place near Antwerp to escape the crowds with your dog for a few hours, Lillo is definitely one to remember.
